How to Order NiE:
The minimum order to qualify for the NIE reduced rate of $.19 per copy is five copies or $.50 for Sunday delivered on Monday. (Please note that sponsorship is not available for Sunday papers). To arrive at the cost, we take the number of copies ordered times the number of days the paper will be delivered. Teachers may place an order using a purchase order number (available from the school district) or we can bill teachers directly. For districts where funding may not be available, teachers may apply for a partial or full News in Education scholarship.
Order processing generally takes two days, with the exception of the beginning of the school year. Along with the newspaper subscription, teachers may also receive lesson plans.
There are two ways to order NiE: regular subscription or mini unit.
Regular NiE Subscriptions:
Regular all-year delivery ensures no one misses a thing! The best value, teachers select the day(s) of the week they wish to receive the newspaper and the number of copies (minimum five). The subscription starts at the beginning of the school year and ends right before exams. Students receive consistent delivery of the sunrise Buffalo News and teachers pick and choose the necessary lessons.
Many of our teachers receive the paper everyday, but we do give teachers the flexibility to pick and choose which day best suits their needs. For example, geography and math teachers find Monday's newspaper to be most helpful because of the expanded sports section. Business teachers also like Monday because of $MoneySmart, a section with up-to-date technology trends and personal finance. Tuesday's paper is popular with Home and Career teachers because of Job Finder. This section has employment classifieds as well as tips on how to find (and keep) a job. Wednesday includes NeXt, the section written by local teens and The Mini Pages. Thursday has an expanded Life & Arts section and Friday includes Gusto, very popular for integrating English Language Arts to the Arts - because of music and movie reviews, cultural happenings and more. Still other teachers prefer to receive Sunday's newspaper delivered on Monday. You can see why so many teachers receive the paper everyday-- The Buffalo News has something for everyone.
We'll also need to know the number of copies for students,, a stop and start date and all school holidays (we don't deliver on those days).
Finally, regular classroom subscriptions come with a choice of our teaching guides and Mini Units --helping to ensure the newspaper is fully utilized. Teachers select one program or mini unit for every hundred papers ordered. For a preview of these materials, click here.
Mini Units:
You love having the newspaper in class, but don't feel you can work it in for the entire year. You can custom design your newspaper unit or select from our mini units - short-term programs built around particular themes, come with their own teaching materials and have pre-determined start and stop dates.*
