News Books for Kids collects new children’s books from the community and distributes them to needy children in Western New York who would not otherwise have a chance to own a book of their own. Organizations that service children and community service organization lending libraries are eligible to receive books from Books for Kids. The drive begins April 1 and ends April 30 - during Literacy Month.
News Books for Kids has distributed over 1.4 million books to needy children since it was established in 1995. In 2007 alone, 100,388 books were distributed. News Books for Kids is sponsored by The Buffalo News, Project Flight, Channel 2, Buffalo State College, Quebecor World Buffalo, Wegmans, the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, the Buffalo and Erie County Public Libraries and the Junior League of Buffalo.
