The specifications for black & white halftones on KBA offset presses, using Agfa N91 printing plates are as follows:
- The advertising image area for broadsheet is 10.874” x 20”.
- A 100-line screen with a round dot is preferred. Resolution should be at least 170 ppi.
- The Agfa printing plates will hold a 2% highlight dot and an 96% shadow dot. A higher percentage in the shadow, over 90%, will print solid.
- Positive material should have a hard-edged photographic
dot. A soft-edged or ragged dot will print at less-than-optimum quality. Ink-jet and laser printer halftones will not reproduce with acceptable quality.
- Negatives supplied to The News should be right-reading, emulsion up for full-page ads. Negatives for ads other than full page should be right-reading,
emulsion down. All negatives must have a background density of no less than 4.0. All negatives
will be copydot scanned for pagination.
