The Buffalo News has several means of receiving advertisements in an electronic format:

The Buffalo News First Class Server (FTP)

The Buffalo News First Class Server has been set up to make the transfer of electronic documents as simple and reliable as possible. To send a file to our server, please call (716) 849-5464 and the pre-press department will assist you in gaining access to The Buffalo News First Class Server.

AdSend

Ads are received via Associatd Press satellite in a PDF format at a computer in the pre-press department. This method is fast, automated and reliable. A job ticket is automatically printed in pre-press. There is a charge to the advertiser. The News site ID for AdSend is: NYBUE. Advertisers can contact AdSend at 1-800-2ADSEND.

Internet E-mail

Available to any advertiser who has Internet access. Ads are included as an attachment and received at a computer in pre-press. Pre-press must be notified when to expect such ads. Ads are usually in an EPS or PDF format. Fonts must be supplied. No charge to the advertiser, other than their normal Internet access charges. PDF profiles for The News are available; please call (716) 849-4157. Attached ads should be sent to adops@buffnews.com.

If you or your accounts have any questions or concerns of a technical  nature, contact the publishing systems department at (716) 849-4157, -5565, -5553, or -4485.

Sending an ad on a computer disc:

The Buffalo News Pre-press and Marketing Services departments can accept a variety of disc formats. If you wish to send an ad on disc, please call the Ad Operations department at (716) 849-5464 to find out if your format is accepted.

Please label the disc by the account name and ad size and include all EPS and TIFF artwork. Also include screen and printer fonts used in the ad (including any embedded fonts), plus a hard copy of the ad for Marketing Services personnel to proof against (a color proof for color ads). The department utilizes a Macintosh-based system, currently using Quark Xpress 3.32 & 4.1, Adobe Illustrator 9.0, Photoshop 6.0, AdSpeed 4.2, and Adobe In-Design CS. Pagemaker 6.5 and Freehand 8.0 are also acceptable, but please send an EPS file (with type converted to curves or outline) that can be printed from InDesign CS.

If you have any questions or concerns of a technical nature, contact the Marketing Services department at (716) 849-5517.

Please Note:

  • E-mail addresses on the Internet are not case-sensitive.
  • All ads sent in EPS format must have fonts included. Contact pre-press if the advertiser is u nsure how to include fonts.
  • Allow as much lead time as possible for ads sent by modem. It is a very slow process and frequently requires re-transmission of the ad.
  • We prefer the use of Postscript fonts as we have found TrueType fonts to be unreliable when sending to various output devices. TrueType fonts can be used when converted to outline or paths using an illustration program such as Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand. If we encounter TrueType font problems we may be forced to replace the fonts with Postscript fonts. We cannot guarantee matching all fonts exactly.
